Who is PNWJ?

This page features messages about war, peace and our troubled times by artists working with Peace Not War Japan. More will be added over the coming months, as our contributing artists and others give us their messages for peace.

If you are a Japanese or Japan-based musician and would like to send your own message, please email to: info[at]pnwj.org, either in Japanese or in English, although both is best!

And More

This is for peace, this is for peace.
"Yeah, he is the root of all evil!"
This is for peace, this is for peace.
"We'll knock them down for PEACE!"
Yeah, this is for peace.

People get together for peace.
World starts to move for peace.

"People believe violence for peace according to each justice."
This is for peace, this is for peace.......

Don't be deceived into killing each other by such a word.
It was said that the first atomic explosion was for peace......

Raj Ramayya (Bhang Lassi)

Music has the power to cross cultural boundaries, open people's hearts and show us that we have more in common than we realize. Peace is ours if we want it.

Cheryo

Weapons of mass destruction ... Nonsense!
Nihilism ... Nonsense!
Borders ... Nonsense!
War ... Nonsense!
Nonsense ... nonsense!

Dry & Heavy (Likkle Mai)

I was born in a country where we have renounced WAR forever. I never let a change to this peaceful constitution, and never want anything to happen that will lead the children to WAR.

Hope

It is the standard in the world of impure contradiction.
Having had the gap even since that day.
The result of the present connecting to past.
Since when has mankind looked for peace.
Each one becomes the whole and each one makes the whole.
Terrorism, war, a person kills a person... cannibalism?

The solution by the violent military power generates new confrontations.
Rule produces corpses after all.
The catastrophe of power, greediness, hedonism.
Evolution or degeneration, we still make changes anyway.

Which destination we are going to?
We should return to a natural starting point.
Just return to a natural starting point.

Kotobuki

Hoping for world peace is very important, but I think being at peace with yourself and understanding what peace is, is even more important. This is a very difficult thing to achieve, but the "peace" we want to understand, want to feel, want to look for and want to find is something inside of yourself.

A lot of people say the world should be peaceful, that war is nonsense, and the world should be one. But our homeland Korea is still divided into two. We have look at the reality before we say such things.

We don't rap about the peace, we rap about the reality we see.

Nao (Vocalist with Unused)

I've been living in Hiroshima since I was little, and I hate the word peace sometimes because it's an overused word here. Peace Park, Peace Gatherings, Peace Walk..... And I realized that people always talk about past wars, the atomic explosion or the after-effects, which are all really sad things to talk about, but they don't usually mention about the beauty of this town, or the interesting and creative people here, like a lot of the musicians who all have been active in the local music scene for over 10 years in the peace town of Hiroshima.

Learning and knowing about what happened in the war is important for all of us, of course, but I think that peace basically means the more positive side of our lives, and we need to focus on individual peace inside our minds such as feelings you have when you're with your friends, families or lovers and you relax with music and smiles.

I really appreciate that the PEACE NOT WAR JAPAN CD has given me a chance to send some of the songs that were born in Hiroshima, and it was also a good chance for me to think about peace.

Quante Jubila

A "War on terror" is a war in error -- violence can only inspire more violence, it cannot put an end to it.

We see through the hypocrisy, greed and manipulation.

No blood for oil, no more death for profit!

Raw Rec (Erin)

In 2004 I went to Ground Zero. Looking at all the devastation....knowing that humans had caused this.....I was lost for words.

And now, when will the terrorism, war and killings end? I wanted to express my feelings in regard to war, and so I wrote the song "One Soul One Heart". But I have not experienced war first-hand, so perhaps that is why I can actually sing such a song. Maybe people think that I shouldn't sing such a song, that I don't have the right. But I truly think that we no longer need these murders. I explained my feelings to my friend in New York, Pete Miser. We then wrote this track together.

I don't know what we can achieve through music, but I want to inspire people to take one step towards making this better.

Ryukyu Underground

We stand against militarism, the domination of the poor by the rich, and the South by the North. While war is at time justifiable as a last resort, the current War on Terror and Iraq War are terrorizing, killing and brutalizing innocent civilians who had nothing to do with the September 11 or any other subsequent attacks. Individually we believe that the roots of peace exist within each of us. Politically we can support only those who value universal compassion above all else.

Soul Flower Union (Takashi Nakagawa)

How bizarre that the United States of America, the worst country in the world in terms of global violence, and one that should be charged with assembling weapons of mass destruction, is still at large in this civilized community.

Their often-used justification, 'in the name of national defense', has no meaning. It is they who are jeopardizing the very survival of humanity. Whatta joke.

Now we have a battlefield which is a devastating inferno littered with corpses of people who all should have loved somebody and been loved by somebody. This is not a paranoid fantasy. This is a political reality.

War is a man-made disaster, we can choose whether to continue it or not.

When will people say 'enough'?

I feel peace of mind now, from writing this message for PEACE NOT WAR CD.
